The bible often talks about how man used to live for 300-500 years and throughout history there are similar stories of longevity. For example Li Ching-Yuen was reputably either 197 and 256 years old when he passed. He said the secret of his long life was;
Keep a quiet heart, Sit like a tortoise, Walk sprightly like a pigeon and Sleep like a dog
Science is now telling us that the secret to a ling life is the length of our telomeres. These little caps sit on the end of our chromosomes. Greig Bradden refers to them as those little bits on the end of your laces that stop them fraying. As the chromosome splits and replicates it is these telomere’s that bear the damage of that process. When they wear out then senility and disease sets in, as the chromosomes start to become damaged.
Science is also showing that stress shortens these telomere’s and thus shortens your life. So, perhaps Li Ching-Yuen’s advice on a ‘quiet heart’ isn’t too far off the mark. Of course he lived in a quieter time, practised qigong everyday, drank pure water and ate vegetable and herbs plucked from the hillsides.
Another of his secrets was to not over eat. If your system is in fight or flight mode the you aren’t in rest and digest mode. When you relax you start this digestive process. When you finish digesting then the rest part kicks in to renew cells and repair your body. If you are continually in fight or flight or you continually eat then your body will never reach the stage where rest and repair happens and that’s a recipe for disaster.
So, if you want to live forever;
- Live in a warm climate.
- Exercise daily.
- Drink pure water.
- Eat natural foods.
- Fast regularly.
